It’s springtime in New England and that means it’s time for the Friends of the Library of Windham to host their annual Strawberry Festival & Book Fair, a fundraising event for the library. This memorable event will take place on Saturday, June 7th, from 10:30 a.m. -5:00 p.m., on the grounds of the Nesmith Library on Fellows Road (off Rte 111) in Windham, New Hampshire. The Book Fair will run from 10:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. F.L.O.W. Members, Senior Citizens, and Volunteers can enjoy the “early bird” book sale on Thursday, June 5th from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Seniors will receive a 50% discount on their book fair purchases. The festival will include all the favorites such as: entertainment, games, music, contests, raffles, and our famous homemade STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKES!!

Games


We are bringing back many of the most popular festival games plus a few more. This year the children will enjoy: Mini & Giant Moon Walks, Inflatable Slide, Basketball Toss, Soccer Kick, Duck Pond, Froggy Fling, Dart Board, and the Windham Police and Fire Department's will be providing children’s activities as well. Don’t forget the Dunking Tank! It’s sure to make a splash when our local “dunkees” take their turns on the throne. Some of the dunkees we’ve “invited” include: Dr. Frank Bass, Bruce Anderson, Mike Hatem, Dennis Senibaldi, Deb Armfield, Mr. Andy Desrosiers, the Windham Town Beach Lifeguards, and more! A complete schedule of dunkee times will be published a week before the festival.

Food

Food is always an important part of any great festival and have we got food. Our local “Chefs” will be grilling hot dogs and hamburgers at our “Chuck Wagon” Grills. If you’re looking for a more sophisticated culinary delight, then mosey on over to one of the food stands sponsored by the Common Man, Gourmet Grille, or Village Bean. Our pizza vendor this year is Capri Pizza, yum, yum!! We will have some tasty treats for the children including popcorn, cotton candy, slushes, dough boys, and pretzels. Also, we will have our first ever Mini Shortcakes Table. Children will be able to create their very own shortcakes/sundaes to eat.
Our 10th Annual Pie Eating contest will be held at 1:00 pm and will include the following age categories: 5 years old & under, 6-9 years old, 10-14 years old, 15 years of age and older, and the Dad’s & Mom’s Category. The first person, in their age group, to finish his/her pie is the winner. The pies have been generously donated by Table Talk Pie Company. All winners will receive a Chunky's Gift Certificate.

Entertainment

If it’s entertainment you come to the festival for, then you won’t be disappointed. This year’s line-up is incredible! D.J. Mike Mell, of New Style Entertainment - www.newstyledjs.com-, will keep the fun going by supplying music for the day and letting everyone know what’s going on throughout the festival. The entertainment begins with an opening ceremony provided by the Boy Scouts, followed by the Windham Community Concert Band, Windham Swing Band, Karate International, Junior Hurricane Drumline of Windham, Dance Impressions, Golden Crane, Windham's Got Talent Show, Three Left Feet - Canine Freestyle & Drill Team, raffle announcements (including door prizes), and a closing ceremony by the Boy Scouts. Our ongoing entertainment includes: Face Painting, Balloon Animals, Sand Art, and Jousting!!!!

Shortcake Shuttles and Rain Plan

Finally, to add to your relaxing day, be sure to take our free & convenient “Shortcake Shuttles” to and from the Strawberry Festival. The shuttles will be picking up/dropping off at the Center School or the Rte.111 Park & Ride parking lots. The shuttles will run continuously from 10:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. There will be a designated area, at the Rte. 111 Park & Ride, for Handicap Parking. We will also have a “Mom’s Quiet Room” for Mom’s with infants who need some privacy.
So grab your picnic blankets and head to the Strawberry Festival & Book Fair for a day of family fun and community spirit!

In the case of rain, the festival will be held at the Center School and the Book Fair will remain at the Nesmith Library.
